….The Kaniva College feedlot project is drawing to conclusion. For VCAL the project covered work related skills, personal development and numeracy skills. The project began four months ago when two students a year 12 VCAL student and year 9 Agricultural student contacted Damian Pearson at Westech Ag Kyle Livestock. Damian and Stuart Kyle organized the purchase of forty-five lambs. …Damian prepared a feed program for the sheep This was a preparation which consisted of a mixture of beans, barley, additives and barley straw for roughage. The boys undertook the huge task of mixing grain and feeding the sheep for four months, including school holidays….Early valuation indicates that the feedlot will make a profit as well as providing students with valuable skills including, planning, organization, motivation, reliability, teamwork and running a business. The sheep will be missed at the College however I doubt the smell after rain will. The College still has twelve sheep as part of the VCAL lambing project.
